Manchester City and Liverpool will play each other in a Premier League matchup on Sunday which has the potential to decide the league title. Both teams are coming off of wins in their respective Champions League quarterfinal first legs earlier this week.

Pep’s “overthinking”

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has often been criticized for overthinking during the meaningful games, especially in the Champions League. When City played Atlético Madrid earlier in the week, a reporter asked Pep if it was a challenge for him not to overthink. His response was pretty blatantly sarcastic.

“In the Champions League, I always overthink. I always create ew tactics, new ideas,” said Guardiola. “I overthink a lot, that’s why I have very good results in the Champions League.”

When a reporter asked Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp his thoughts on the comments, he was quick to point out that they were not meant to be taken seriously.

“It was ironic! He said ironically, ‘I overthink things’ or ‘I like overthinking things’,” said Klopp. “We all think a lot. It’s the reason why sometimes we make mistakes, and sometimes we find out the right things to do.”

Klopp and Guardiola have played each other 22 times over their careers, both in Germany and in England and Klopp has a lot of respect for Guardiola.

“Pep is the best coach in the world,” said Klopp. “I think we would all agree on that.”

Manchester City will host Liverpool at Ethiad Stadium on Sunday, April 10. Kickoff is at 11:30 a.m. ET.

“Hopefully, we are now long enough together that we are ready to play the best possible game against City,” said Klopp. “That would be the target.”
