LAFC have to pay Inter Miami a fee for Gareth Bale signing

The team owned by David Beckham had the Wales international on its Discovery List, which means that they had filed a claim to secure the player with the league office.

It has been confirmed that Gareth Bale will play for Los Angeles FC for the second part of the current campaign and through the 2023 season. The Wales international arrives as a free agent and will not occupy a designated player spot.

The Los Angeles-based team will have to pay a fee to Inter Miami for the signing of the former Real Madrid player. The reason why is because the team owned by David Beckham had Gareth Bale in their Discovery List to obtain the rights of the player.

What is a Discovery List?

According to Major League Soccer to obtain the rights to a Discovery Player, a club must first place the players on its Discovery List. This means filing a claim to the player with the league office. A club can have up to seven players on its Discovery List and they can be added or removed at any time.

There is no limit to the number of players a club can sign from its respective Discovery List and Inter Miami had Gareth Bale. So now LAFC has to pay $50,000 to the team owned by David Beckham before the the Wales international makes his debut in Major League Soccer.
