Los Angeles FC have signed Gareth Bale, a major coup for the MLS club on and off the field.

LAFC will however have to pay Inter Miami for the transfer. In a press release, LAFC announced the arrival of Bale, which mentions the amount that the LAFC board will have to pay to David Beckham’s Inter Miami for the Wales international.

The duration of the contract between LAFC and the Wales captain is for one year with an option to extend it until 2024.

Bale joins on free transfer

Bale is joining the North American club on a free transfer from Real Madrid, but LAFC will have to pay the $75,000 fee in 2023 in General Allocation Money to Inter Miami.

“Inter Miami CF has acquired $75,000 in 2023 General Allocation Money (GAM) from LAFC in exchange for the discovery priority to Gareth Bale,” the MLS club said on their official website.

Discovery rights, discovery list - what are they?

According to MLS rules, teams can add certain transfer targets to a ‘discovery list’ of up to seven players. This allows the franchise to claim priority if they want to purchase the player at a future date. If another team wishes to sign him, they must pay a fee to the franchise with the discovery rights. You’ll find a more in-depth explanation on the MLS website.
