LAFC’s Bale and Chiellini left out of match against Charlotte FC
Los Angeles FC extended their winning streak to six after defeating Charlotte 5-0, and are in pole position to lift the Supporters’ Shield this season.
Gareth Bale and Giorgio Chiellini missed Los Angeles FC’s dominant performance against Charlotte FC on Saturday night in front of a crowd capacity crowd at Banc of California Stadium. The franchise announced that due to load management both players missed the Black & Gold’s first ever matchup against the new MLS expansion team.
Jesús Murillo, José Cifuentes, Carlos Vela, Cristian Arango and an own goal from Anton Walkes helped LAFC defeat Charlotte 5-0 and extend their winning streak to six games. The Los Angeles-based team remained atop the overall MLS standings with 17 wins, three defeats and four draws, for 54 points.
The Los Angeles Football Club will return back to action to host DC United on Tuesday night at Banc of California stadium. It is expected that Gareth Bale and Giorgio Chiellini are available for this match and the Welshman could make his first start in MLS.
LAFC are the best team in MLS
The team managed by Steve Cherundolo have been dominating the league since day one and now they are six points ahead of both Austin FC and Philadelphia Union in the Supporters’ Shield race with 10 games left in the campaign. LAFC has also scored in 38 consecutive regular season home games dating back to 22 August 2020, the second longest streak in MLS history.
“We are quite satisfied with the result at home and we achieved that. We spoke to the guys at half time because in the first half we played a bit lethargic and sloppy. So we asked them to sharpen it up a bit and we also mentioned that once we make one play, space and opportunity will present themselves. All-on-all it was a good night,” Cherundolo said.
