LaLiga 2023-24 fixtures: opening weekend, El Clásico...
Real Madrid and Barcelona are likely to fight it out for the LaLiga title once again but can anyone else challenge them?
It’s only been a matter of days since the identities of all 20 teams for the 2023/24 LaLiga season have been known but it’s already time to look ahead and start thinking about when it all kicks off again, who’s playing who when and whether Barcelona can retain their title ahead of Real Madrid…and perhaps even one or two others.
When does the 2023/24 LaLiga season start?
The LaLiga season is due to begin on Friday 11 August , with most matches on the opening weekend of the season set to be played on Saturday 12 August and Sunday 13 August.
Who do Real Madrid and Barcelona play on the opening weekend?
Defending champions Barcelona will begin their LaLiga 2023/24 campaign with an away match against Getafe, while Real Madrid are at Athletic Club. The exact date and time haven’t yet been confirmed.

Who do Real Madrid and Barcelona finish the season against?
Will the LaLiga title be on the line on the final day of the season? Let’s hope so. Los Blancos end up with a home match against Real Betis, while La Blaugrana are away to their city rivals Sevilla. Matchday 38 is due to be played on Sunday 26 May 2024.

El Clásico: when are the two fixtures?
The clash we all had our eyes on. The first league Clásico of the season will take place at Montjuic on matchday 11 (weekend of 29 October), with the return match played on matchday 32 (weekend of 21 April) at Estadio Santiago Bernabéu.
When are the two Madrid derbies?
The first Madrid derby between Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid will be held at the Metropolitano on matchday 6 (weekend of 24 September), with the second scheduled for matchday 23 (weekend of 4 February) at the Bernabéu.
Is there a mid-season break in the 2023/24 LaLiga season?
LaLiga reverts back to ‘normal’ after 2022/23 season, which had a long break in November and December because of the 2022 World Cup. That means there will be a short pause in proceedings between Thursday 21 December and Tuesday 2 January.
When are there international breaks in 2023/24?
There are a total of four scheduled international breaks during the 2023/24 LaLiga season:

The Champions League starts on 19 September, with the first six matchdays being played through to 13 December.

Copa del Rey 2023/24
The 2023/24 Copa del Rey will begin on 1 November (LaLiga clubs will enter at a later date), with the final held at La Cartuja in Sevilla on 6 April 2024.
Spanish Super Cup 2023/24
As has been the case in recent years, the Spanish Super Cup will again be held in Saudi Arabia. Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atlético Madrid and Osasuna will take part in the next edition from 10 to 14 January 2024.
