Landon Donovan and Robbie Keane candidates for LA Galaxy job

The team with the most league titles are below the playoff line in the Western Conference and they have five games to secure a spot.

Landon Donovan was joined by the likes of Robbie Keane and David Beckham at the Galaxy.

Greg Vanney was appointed as the Los Angeles Galaxy manager last season, but failed to qualify for the playoffs in his first year. The American coach received the confidence of the board to continue with his project for the 2022 MLS regular season, but things have not gone as expected for the team with the most titles in the league (5).

Five games left to secure a playoff spot

Currently, the Galaxy sit in eighth place in the standings in the Western Conference with 40 points, three behind Real Salt Lake, and they need a top-seven finish to secure a spot in the 2022 MLS Cup playoffs. With five games left the Galaxy must win in order to avoid missing the postseason for a second consecutive season.

If Galaxy miss out on the playoffs this season there will be serious changes prior to the start of the 2023 MLS campaign, including a change of manager. According to sources from AS, they will part ways with Vanney and already have several names who could take over next year.

Two names on that list are two former LA Galaxy legends: Landon Donovan and Robbie Keane. The priority would be Donovan who is currently the San Diego SC manager and executive vice president of soccer operations, and he has been patiently waiting to start his career as a coach in Major League Soccer.

It was rumored that Donovan was offered the San Jose Earthquakes job earlier this year, but he declined because he is waiting to see what happens with the Galaxy this season. Donovan tops the list of candidates as Keane has no experience as a manager. The Dubliner was the assistant coach of Middlesbrough during the 2019-20 season.
