Landon Donovan believes USMNT will make it to World Cup final
The United States legend believes in the potential of the ‘golden generation’ and has backed them to make it to the final in Qatar.
There is a lot of expectation surrounding the ‘golden generation’ of the United States men’s national team as they return to the World Cup for the first time in eight years. The USMNT arrived in Qatar with the second youngest squad in the tournament, with an age average of 24, and American legend Landon Donovan believes this team can make it to the final.
Donovan’s prediction
The 40-year-old made a bold prediction when he appeared as a guest analyst for the FOX network and said that the United States will defeat Ecuador in the round of 16, followed by wins over defending champions France in the quarter-finals and Ghana in the semi-finals. Donovan then said that the USMNT will lose against Brazil in their first-ever final appearance in the tournament.
If Donovan is right, it will be the United States’ first-ever appearance in a semi-final and in the final in the history of the World Cup, which started in 1930. The LA Galaxy legend also predicted that the Canada men’s national team will qualify for the round of 16, but will lose to Spain.
The United States men’s national team are in Group B and will kick off their World Cup campaign on 21 November against Gareth Bale and Wales. Four days later they will have their toughest matchup when they play against England, and they will conclude the group stage against Iran on 29 November. The USMNT are ranked 16th going into the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
