The 2022 FIFA World Cup will start in less than 60 days and teams from CONCACAF that are participating are using this international window to evaluate the players that will be traveling to Qatar in November. This is the case for the United States, Mexico, Costa Rica and Canada.

Each team from CONCACAF wants to make history in the upcoming World Cup and we are going to take a look back at the performances of their best players in the history of the tournament. When talking about historic performances there is one player that excels above all and his name is Landon Donovan from the USMNT.

Who are the top scorers in CONCACAF at the World Cup?

No other player in CONCACAF has scored more goals than Landon Donovan at the World Cup during his three participations. The former USMNT captain made his first appearance at the 2002 World Cup in South Korea/Japan and scored two goals. Donovan was unable to find the back of the net during the 2006 World Cup in Germany but four years later he scored three times.

The former United States international scored a total of five goals making him the all-time leading scorer in CONCACAF in three World Cup appearances. In second place there are four players who have scored a total of four goals in different World Cups and they are: Luis ‘Matador Hernández (Mexico), Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernández (Mexico), Clint Dempsey (US) and Bert Patenaude (US).

On three goals are the former Costa Rica international’s Ronaldo Gómez and Paulo Wanchope in two World Cup appearances. Gómez scored two during the 2002 World Cup and one four years later. While Wanchope scored one during the 2002 World Cup and two in Germany four years later.
