Latest in Dani Olmo case as player believes Barça can still resolve the situation
The 26-year-old’s circle still believe that the club can rectify the situation after his registratration being terminated by LaLiga.
The drama at FC Barcelona continues after both Dani Olmo and Pau Victor had their current season registrations at the club terminated after the Catalan side lost a second appeal to register the players for the remainder of the season on Monday, with the club unable to meet LaLiga’s wage cap.
“FC Barcelona states that it has applied for a new license for the players Daniel Olmo and Pau Victor to the RFEF (Spanish FA),” the club said in a statement.
Barcelona signed Olmo in August for around $57 million last summer from RB Leipzig but the player was registered for only the first half of the season.
The club managed to register both Olmo and forward Victor after long-term injuries kept first-team players out of the squad for months, allowing them to allocate a portion of their wages.
As things stand, both Olmo and Victor are free agents after the 31 December deadline.
However, according to the RFEF rules, a player cannot be signed by the same club twice in the same season.
Barcelona is reportedly planning to raise funds by selling VIP box seats at the Camp Nou stadium, potentially generating over 100 million euros, subject to LaLiga’s approval.
Optimistic Olmo
Dani Olmo still believes that the club will be able to reach a mutually suitable arrangement with both LaLiga and the Spanish FA.
However, the player and his lawyer, Ramon Valencia are frustrated with the turn of events after the club reassured the player and his father on 20 December that everything was under control.
Both players are training with the first team squad and the big unknown surrounds the duo being called up to play in Saturday’s Copa de Rey third round game in Barbastro and if both players will be on the plane to Jeddah four days later for the Spanish Super Cup.
Barcelona still cling to the hope that the deal surrounding the VIP boxes at the Spotify Camp Nou goes through and although a re-registration would arrive late and would also need the approval of the RFEF and LaLiga to be carried out, both players could participate in official competition in the Barça jersey.
Both Olmo and Victor have seen an outpouring of support from his teammates with the likes of Lamine Yamal and Iñigo Martínez taking to social media to add their voices in support of the duo at this complex time for both players.
