Liga MX Apertura 2023 quarter final picture getting clearer

Atletico San Luis won their play-in game and advance to face Rayados as beaten Club Leon now face Santos Laugna with a place in the last eight on the line for the winner.

The picture for the quarter final of the 2023 Liga MX Apertura got that bit clearer on Thursday night after the first two games of the newly introduced play-in format.

América, Monterrey, Tigres, Pumas, Chivas and Puebla have already claimed their places in the quarterfinals with the rivals for first placed America and Rayados set to be resolved via this new mechanic as used in the NBA.

Liga MX play-in

The team that finished seventh (San Luis) hosted the eighth-place team (Leon) and with a 3-2 win at the Estadio Alfonso Lastras on Thursday night, the side from Potosi seal their place in the quarter-finals. The loser (Leon) now hosts the winner of the meeting between the ninth and 10th-place teams, which saw Santos Laguna beat Mazatlan 2-1 with the final game of the play-in now set to see Leon face Santos on Sunday for the final last-eight berth.

Monterrey vs At. San Luis

Tigres vs Puebla

Pumas vs Chivas

The first round of the quarter final games will be played next midweek with the return legs scheduled for the first weekend of December.
