Just two games remaining in the in the final stretch of the Liga MX Clausura 2023 tournament and with just two teams mathematically eliminated from postseason activity, 16 sides are making preparations on a final assault with the objective for teams at the top to secure a guaranteed top four play-off place. Clubs further down the table meanwhile look to gain a foothold in the top 12 and advance to the postseason via the preliminary repechage-wild-card round.

Despite losing this weekend to Santos Laguna, Monterrey remain the absolute leader with Rayados the only team mathematically guaranteed a top four berth at this point despite falling to a consecutive loss. After a solid win in the Clásico Joven over city rivals Cruz Azul, Club América exchanged places with Toluca with the Red Devils falling to Pumas and ‘Las Aguilas’ now sit in second spot with Toluca third. Chivas continue to make progress as they currently occupy the final playoff spot following a weekend win over Club León.

Pumas appear to have recovered under new coach Mohamed as the university side recorded a second consecutive win this weekend and it’s they who currently claim the key 12th position which would seen them face the fifth placed team (away) in the repechage.

Mazatlán and Querétaro, eliminated

Mazatlán and Querétaro are the only two sides who will not be involved in any postseason football. The side from Sinaloa languish at the foot of the table with just seven points following a dismal season and although mathematically the ‘Gallos Blancos’ could enter the repechaje zone, they are eliminated as they have the worst coiffecent record and this rules the team out of continuing in the Clausura 2023 postseason.
