Liga MX club strikes agreement over European move

Monterrey midfielder Nelson Deossa’s long-held dream of playing in Europe is about to become reality this summer. After weeks of negotiations between the Mexican club and Spain’s Real Betis, both teams have reached a full agreement, paving the way for the Colombian to join one of the world’s top leagues.

How much will Deossa cost Betis?

According to renowned transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, Betis finalized all paperwork Friday night and will pay a significant fee for Deossa’s transfer.

Romano posted on X: “Real Betis have signed all formal documents for Nelson Deossa to join the club until June 2030. $14m plus $2m add-ons fee.”

Who else was interested in Deossa?

At 25, Deossa is set to embark on his first adventure in European football’s elite. His career has already taken him through Argentina (Estudiantes), Mexico (Pachuca and Monterrey), and now to LaLiga, where he’ll suit up for Manuel Pellegrini’s Betis. He’ll be joined by fellow Colombian international Cucho Hernández.

Betis wasn’t the only European club chasing Deossa following his standout performance at the FIFA Club World Cup held in the United States. Roma, Porto, West Ham and Nottingham Forest were all in the mix. Meanwhile, Brazilian powerhouse Palmeiras also expressed interest from South America.
