Liga MX violence flares as Pumas and Xolos fans fight at stadium

A brawl broke out at the Estadio Caliente in Tijuana during a Liga MX meeting between Xolos and Pumas on Friday night. The game finished 1-1 on the field but much of the postgame news surrounded the chaotic scenes around the stadium.

According to witnesses, the home team’s fans confronted the visiting supporters and violence quickly escalated with punches being thrown at one of the stadium exits. Daniel Andrade, a journalist from the border state, shared a video on his social media documenting the events.

The images show a Pumas fan lying on the ground, being watched over by passersby. No serious injuries were reported but his condition was not clarified.

Last August another violent incident marred Liga MX during a match between Bravos de Juárez and Chivas played at Estadio Akron. Footballer Ángel Zaldívar commented on his social media that his family had been victims of physical attacks. He revealed that his niece and his brother had been targeted, the latter suffering a broken nose.

A couple of years ago, during a game between Chivas and Xolos, the violence escalated to higher levels with a shooting outside Estadio Caliente. The brawl began inside the stadium but escalated as the group moved outside and one fan, a 33-year-old man, tragically lost his life.
