Lionel Messi and Inter Miami stars finally free from Barcelona
Four years after leaving the LaLiga giants, Messi is no longer due any money from the club where he made his name.

Lionel Messi is set to receive the final installment of his deferred salary from FC Barcelona on June 30.
How much is Messi due from Barcelona?
The payment—€5.95 million (around $6.4 million)—stems from his last contract with the club, in which he agreed to postpone a portion of his wages due to the financial fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic. According to Culemania, Barça will wire the money on Monday, officially closing the books on its financial obligations to Messi, now with Inter Miami in MLS.
Inter Miami stars also set for Barça payment
Messi isn’t the only player in this situation. Former teammates Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, who also delayed salary payments during the pandemic, will receive their final installments on the same day. Busquets is due €1.18 million ($1.38 million), while Alba will collect €943,879 (just over $1.1 million).
Several current players on Barcelona’s roster are also wrapping up similar deferred wage agreements. Ronald Araújo, Pedri, Ansu Fati, and Iñaki Peña will each receive final payments on June 30. The amounts are significantly smaller—for instance, Pedri deferred €757,040 ($887,360) to be paid in eight installments, while Araújo postponed €429,036 ($366,020).
Other high-profile players like Marc-André ter Stegen and Frenkie de Jong opted not to defer their wages but instead signed contract extensions that spaced out payments more gradually.
A handful of former Barça players are also set to receive deferred wages this weekend, including:
- Samuel Umtiti: €1.2 million ($1.41 million)
- Antoine Griezmann: €965,331 ($1.13 million)
- Philippe Coutinho: €854,794 ($1 million)
- Ousmane Dembélé: €643,554 ($754,340)
- Miralem Pjanic: €643,554 ($754,340)
- Sergi Roberto: €598,612 ($701,660)
Barcelona’s summer 2025 expenditure
All told, Barcelona will pay out close to €16 million (about $17.2 million) in deferred salary payments on Monday. And that’s not all—the club is also preparing to trigger the €62 million ($72.67 million) release clause for Athletic Club winger Nico Williams, bringing the total expected outlay in the coming days to nearly €80 million ($86 million).
