Lionel Messi looking to add to his 46 titles
The Inter Miami captain bagged the Supporters’ Shield and now has his sights firmly set on adding to his collection of silverware with the 2024 MLS Cup.
Lionel Messi led Inter Miami on Wednesday as the Herons edged out Columbus Crew with the win securing the first Supporters’ Shield in the club’s short history in MLS.
The atmosphere on Wednesday night for the Week 36 MLS clash had the feel and atmosphere of a cup final with Wilfried Nancy’s team still in with a shout in competing for the trophy which is awarded to the team with the highest amount of points collected after the regular MLS season.
The 37-year-old bagged two goals on the night as part of the 2-3 win and adds the title to the 2023 Leagues Cup win beating Nashville in the final.
Messi now boasts 46 official career titles, from his early days with Barcelona, his time with the Argentina national side his recent triumphs at club level with Paris Saint-Germain and now with Inter Miami with an MLS Cup winners medal the next silverware on the line for the veteran striker.
Messi leads the way
With Argentina’s recent 2024 Copa América win, Messi has now left his closest pursuers behind with Dani Alves on 44 titles and the recently retired Andrés Iniesta on 40.

His time at FC Barcelona saw the Argentine bag 34 official titles (10 LaLiga titles, eight Spanish Super Cups, seven Copa del Rey titles, four UEFA Champions League titles, three European Super Cups and three Club World Cups). With the Albiceleste, Messi bagged the 2022 World Cup, two Copa América titles, a Finalissima, a gold medal at the Olympic Games and the 2005 U-20 World Cup.
Following his move to PSG, the Rosario native scooped three titles (two Ligue 1 wins and one French Super Cup) and now with Inter Miami he has amassed two titles (the 2023 Leagues Cup and 2024 Supporters’ Shield).
LAFC, Columbus Crew and LA Galaxy are the other highly fancied sides in the battle for the 2024 MLS Cup and will be doing all they can in their power to deny the Argentine from winning title number 47.
