ARGENTINA
Lionel Scaloni will lead Argentina at the 2024 Copa América
Scaloni has confirmed to Chiqui Tapia that he will coach the world champions at the Copa América later this year.
Lionel Scaloni will be in charge of Argentina at the Copa América to be played in the United States in June, confirming to Chiqui Tapia that he will remain as the head coach of La Albiceleste, as reported by journalists Gaston Edul and Fabrizio Romano.
A meeting at the headquarters of the Argentine Football Association between Tapia, the AFA president, and Scaloni, has put an end to the questions surrounding the coach’s future after winning the Copa América and the World Cup in Qatar. The Argentine coach said in recent months that “it is difficult to continue” but after weeks of reflection he has decided to extend his time in charge of his national team.
World Cup champions
Scaloni has managed to build a team that, beyond its technical and tactical ability, has shown important unity in difficult moments such as those experienced in Qatar after the defeat in the opening match against Saudi Arabia. He has been able to manage a group in which he has mixed experience with youth.
After winning the World Cup with Messi and Co. over a year ago, Scaloni has been able to maintain the intensity in his team at the start of the qualifiers for the 2026 tournament in the United States, Mexico and Canada. Despite the setback at home to Uruguay, they pulled off another historic win in Brazil to plunge their rivals into an unprecedented crisis.
