List of clubs interested in Barcelona target Ilkay Gundogan

Ilkay Gundongan is almost ready to announce his next club. As things stand, the Manchester City midfielder has four offers on the table, including one from the Premier League champions. The other three are from FC Barcelona, Arsenal and a club in Saudi Arabia.

AS understands Barcelona are not hiding their unease at the way things are going. Xavi Hernández is in almost weekly contact with the player, and has promised him a leading role at the club.

City want to keep captain

However, in the last few hours, Pep Guardiola’s City have been pushing hard for Gundogan’s renewal, offering him two more years on his contract, instead of just one, which was the initial proposal.

Guardiola himself acknowledged today that they were trying to keep the player. “We want him to stay, but we know that Barcelona are after him. Hopefully, he will stay with us and we are fighting for that. We will do everything we can, but it is clear that, if in the end, Barça take him, they will get a spectacular player. I know that Xavi is calling him a lot. If in the end, he decides to go to Barça, I’ll tell him ‘Gundo’, you’ll have a great time.”

Barcelona offer

Barcelona’s offer is for three seasons, although the amounts are more modest than the other offers, as he would be paid around €5m net per season. The problem is that the offer cannot be guaranteed until there is enough of a budget for his salary at Camp Nou.

Gundogan’s family could also play a key role in the decision-making process and this is where the Blaugrana club have an advantage, as according to reports from England, his wife is in love with the Catalan capital.

So, in the next few days, his future will be resolved, with two main suitors in pole position.
