The sides can't be separated at Anfield. 

It ends 1-1 at Anfield. Arsenal are top after today's point away from home.

The Gunners move onto 40 points, one point ahead of Liverpool and Aston Villa.

Gabriel scored with an early header for Arsenal before Mo Salah equalised later in the first half with a Salah stunner.

It's a glorious chance for Liverpool, who hit Arsenal on the break. It was five-on-one before Salah picked out Trent.

How has he missed?

We're now into the final 20 minutes at Anfield and it remains 1-1. This could go either way. 

As it stands, Arsenal are top of the Premier League. 

Harvey Elliott shoots! It deflects off Gabriel and hits the post. 

Trent's corner is then cleared away. 

Liverpool changes

Time for a triple change.

Diaz is back on his feet and walking again, which is good news for Liverpool.

Saka collides with Diaz. The Colombian is down getting treatment. This is a worrying moment for Liverpool as Diaz has already missed so much action with the Reds through injury.

Liverpool go up the other end and it's Szoboszlai with the effort from distance but it goes wide of Raya's right-hand post. He scored with a superb strike against West Ham in midweek but is unable to replicate it. 

Zinchenko!

He shoots first time from 20 yards but it sails over the bar. Saka's cross is deflected back out and the Ukraine international is the first one to the ball but just can't keep it down. 1-1

Mo Salah is about to head off on international duty with Egypt. The 31-year-old will link up with his national team after Liverpool’s home league game against Newcastle on 1 January and will definitely miss three matches, although it will likely be a minimum of four.

JOE GOMEZ!

His effort from the edge of the area curls just wide of Raya's far post. He has never scored for Liverpool.

Darwin Nunez is warming up for Liverpool.

Martinelli drives at Konate. The Liverpool defender reads it superbly and takes it off the Brazilian with a well-timed tackle. 

It's end-to-end stuff now, with both teams going for it. A win today for either side will leave them top on Christmas Day.

It's been an entertaining first half. Gabriel gave the visitors the lead with an early header before Salah equalised for Liverpool with a fine finish. 

There's the whistle for half-time.

There will be four minutes of additional time here at Anfield.

Odegaard fouls Jones and Liverpool have a free on the edge of the area, which comes to nothing.

Salah gets Zinchenko into another 1v1 and slips Gakpo in but there is too much weight on the pass from the Egyptian forward. 

Zinchenko is struggling massively with Salah on Liverpool's right.

It's an early change for the home side. 

Tsimikas has to go off after a bizarre incident.

Saka challenges the Greek left-back who flies into Klopp, taking the Liverpool manager with him. 

Tsimikas now has to go off with what looks to be a collarbone injury.

It's compelling stuff.

Alexander-Arnold sends a 60-yard ball into the path of Salah, who flies past Zinchenko and buries a left-footed shot into the near top corner. Sensational Salah.

Odegaard slips one through with the outside of his left foot for Martinelli. The latter finds himself in an offside position.

The last time Arsenal won here at Anfield was 11 years ago when Arsene Wenger’s summer signings Lukas Podolski and Santi Cazorla scored their first goals for the club either side of the break to leave new Liverpool head coach Brendan Rodgers presiding over Liverpool’s worst start in the league since the 1962-63 season.

Arsenal have scored the most goals from set-pieces in the Premier League this season (11).

Odegaard takes it onto his right and hits a low effort from 20 yards out that rolls wide of Alisson's right-hand post. 

Jesus hits Arsenal on the break. The Brazilian finally turns back inside to recycle it through Odegaard.

Salah will be frustrated with that right-footed volley. He had time to take it down but decided to go first-time. 0-1

Gakpo heads it on to Salah at the back post... his first-time effort flies into the side-netting. 

Jurgen Klopp has asked for more from the Anfield crowd. He's never lost a Premier League home game against Arsenal, but that early Gabriel goal has quietened the home crowd down. 

Diaz gets down the left and works his way to the byline, but White gets across to block the cross. 

The resulting corner is cleared by Gabriel in the Arsenal box.

It's been a super start to the match by Arteta's side, going man for man all over the pitch and pressing high on the Liverpool back four. 

Alexander-Arnold is picking up a central position, looking to dictate the play from deep.

Liverpool won in midweek, beating West Ham 5-1 in the Carabao Cup, while Arsenal won 2-0 against Brighton last time out.

The Gunners arrived at Anfield earlier ahead of their top-of-the-table clash with Liverpool.

Liverpool players out

Midfielder Alexis Mac Allister could be out until January and will therefore not be available for Jurgen Klopp.

Defender Joel Matip will continue to recover from surgery after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury. Matip, 32, is likely to miss the rest of the 2023-24 season.

Andy Robertson will be sidelined until January after suffering a shoulder injury on international duty with Scotland.

Portugal international Diogo Jota has been out with a hamstring injury since the club’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City, however, the 27-year-old is back doing ball work and could therefore make a return to action soon.

Spanish midfielder Thiago hasn’t played for the club since their victory over West Ham in April and is not expected to be available until the beginning of the new year.

Jurgen Klopp to Liverpool supporters: “Give your ticket to somebody else”

Jurgen Klopp has told Liverpool fans to give away their tickets if they’re not prepared to back the team against Arsenal.

“I don’t know if the Man United game was that bad that we have to say sorry we didn’t smash them? We need Anfield on Saturday.

“If it is too much football in December, if you are not in the right shape, give your ticket to somebody else.”

Liverpool are coming off the back of a 5-1 Carabao Cup thrashing of West Ham, while Arsenal’s last league game ended in a 2-0 win at home to Roberto De Zerbi’s Brighton & Hove Albion, with goals from Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz.

“We have done it at Old Trafford, we have done it at Stamford Bridge and many other places where we haven’t done it for years.

“This is the next challenge. Go there and win. If you want to be at the top you have to go to those places and be dominant. That’s what we’re going to try to do.”

There have been a few classics down the years between the two clubs.

Liverpool at home

Jürgen Klopp’s side have been in formidable form at home this season, winning 12 of 13 matches in all competitions, scoring 40 goals along the way. 

The Reds were held by Erik ten Hag's Manchester United side in their last game at Anfield. The scoreless draw will have been a frustrating one for Liverpool, who followed it up with the 5-1 thrashing of West Ham in the Carabao Cup in midweek.

Arsenal take on Liverpool on knowing a win or even a draw would see them retain their place at the top of the Premier League table on Christmas Day.
