Liverpool go back to the future with retro 90s kit

Liverpool fans of a certain age will fondly remember the green and white Carlsberg checked away strip which the team wore during the 1995-96 season. Then managed by boot room graduate Roy Evans, the second strip didn’t bring the Reds too much luck that season - the team finished third in the Premier League and lost the infamous “White Suits” FA Cup final to Manchester United. Nevertheless, like the iconic Candy pinstrip jersey and the timeless Hitachi V-neck top, the 95-96 green and white kit occupies a special place in many fans hearts.

The wild, Brit Pop years

Mostly, because it will always be associated with two players in particular: Robbie Fowler and Steve McManaman, who forged a dynamic partnership (along with Stan Collymore), as well as showcasing a highly entertaining brand of football. A treat for travelling supporters was guaranteed practically every time Evans’ team went on the road.

Fowler and Macca were invited back to model the new heritage collection launched this week by Adidas. The retro, 90s-inspired collection includes an Adidas Originals 1995 Track Top, as well as a limited-edition “blackout” jersey.
