Liverpool push for Mamardashvili
Valencia are expecting an official offer from the Reds within the next few days. Four English clubs are interested in taking the goalkeeper on loan.
The summer transfer market is starting to heat up and for Valencia, much of the planning will depend on who will be departing the club. One of the players whose future could be decided in the next few days is Giorgi Mamardashvili.
The Georgian goalkeeper has been in Liverpool’s sights for a while. There has been contact between the two clubs but Valencia is waiting for a final offer - one which could arrive in the next few days as the Premier League club informed Valencia on Sunday that their proposal would arrive within the next 72 hours.
The goalkeeping situation at Liverpool
As soon as Liverpool’s offer for Mamardashvili arrives, as always it will be Peter Lim who will decide whether to accept it. His starting price is 40 million euros and the English club already know the asking price and conditions, although a deal could be done for a lower figure with variables, taking the final fee close to 40 million.
Liverpool’s intention is to buy Mamardashvili now, even though the keeper would not see any first team action this season.
Third-choice keeper Adrián returned to Spain over the summer and there are question marks over Caoimhin Kelleher’s future with the Irishman keen to get more playing time. Kelleher is under contract until 2026 while first-choice Allison Becker has another three years left to run on his contract. Liverpool’s technical department consider that the Brazilian still has a couple of good years ahead of him in the elite.
Liverpool’s plan is to bring in a goalkeeper now and send him out on loan for a season. If he joins, Mamardashvili would go out on loan, preferably to a team in the Premier League, so that he can acclimatize to the English game. There are already four Premier League clubs that would be interested in taking him.
First however, the goalkeeper would need to agree to the operation. Valencia meanwhile, would also be willing to keep him for another year on loan but that decision, would rest with Liverpool, if they end up buying the player.
The Reds have been simultaneously working on trying to bring Real Sociedad midfielder Martín Zubimendi to Anfield. The 25-year-old is reported to have rejected Liverpool’s offer to remain in San Sebastián.
