What a chance for Southampton!

Charles is all alone at the back post. The corner makes its way to him - but he smashes the effort from close range into the side netting.

Southampton's last game

Southampton's most recent game was a 2-1 home defeat to Millwall on Saturday.

Russell Martin's side are currently fourth in the Championship.

"Just try to recover. No big celebrations, what you saw in the stadium is what we had then we flew home. Since then we tried  to recover. We had some problems added on - Gravenberch was clear, Endo cannot play. Mac Allister was ill yesterday and came back this morning and we can see how long he can do.

"It's great for the youngsters but it's slightly different. We play a top team in the Championship, they have changed a lot as well.

"The boys are ready to defend, that's the most important thing. Then when we get the ball. Koumas is a striker, a top finisher, he's outstanding. Bobby [Clark] and James [McConnell] - you saw what you saw [at Wembley]. We have to be good against the ball, we have had no time to prepare this."

Liverpool skipper Virgil van Dijk came up with the winning goal in the 118th minute at Wembley on Sunday, as the Reds defeated Chelsea 1-0 to lift the Carabao Cup.

In his programme notes for today's game, Van Dijk wrote: “Ever since I was given the honour of wearing the armband for Liverpool, I have said that I am always proud to be captain of this team.

“This isn’t a feeling that increases or decreases depending on results, it is always there. I have to admit, though, that the sense of pride I have for the entire club right now is as strong as it could be.

“What happened at Wembley on Sunday was incredible. Just thinking about it gives me goosebumps. All the problems that we had before and during the game and we still found a way to win. We stayed together – on and off the pitch – and we found a way to win. This is Liverpool Football Club."
