Liverpool vs Real Madrid: Final delayed after fans struggle to get into the stadium in Paris
The Champions League Final kick-off was delayed after supporters were unable to get into the ground on time.
The final of the Champions League between Liverpool vs Real Madrid was delayed by 30 minutes after fans were unable to get into the stadium on time.
A bottleneck formed at Gate Z at the Stade de France ahead of the match, with fans struggling to access the stadium on time and in an orderly fashion. Some fans were seen climbing the security fences to try and gain access to the ground, and there were reports the French police had used pepper spray on some supporters.
The ceremony did start after the 30 minute delay although there were still fans outside the ground at that point.
Alan Shearer, former England Striker has said on BBC Radio 5 LIve: “We have to hope that everyone outside is OK. For the players their preparation is meticulous to the minute. They have warmed up and their day has been designed for kick-off at a certain time. Now they are back in the dressing room, they don’t know how long they have to sit around for or stretch for. The delay is no good for the players either. They might have to come out and do another warm-up.”
