Luis Chávez pre-game quotes ahead of the game vs USMNT in the Nations League
The midfielder spoke about the fans at Allegiant Stadium, getting to the final and the doubts that come when Mexico lose.
The Mexican National Team want to make it to the Concacaf Nations League final on Thursday when they take on the USMNT at Allegiant Stadium in Nevada. El Tri don’t have a great recent record against their local rivals and have not beaten them in any of their last 5 games, meaning they will have to overcome both mental and physical hurdles in the game.
Of those five games, four took place in the US with only one on Mexican soil: the World Cup qualifier in the Estadio Azteca which ended in a goalless draw, with Guillermo Ochoa the hero after 90 minutes. Despite the poor run, Luis Chávez was confident when asked and put a lot of his faith down to the fans who always show their pride for the team.
What did Chávez say about the Mexico fans?
“When Mexico come to the US, it feels like we are actually the home team”, said the Pachuca player, “we have a lot of support from the Mexican people [in the United States] and I feel like that doesn’t weigh us down at all. Although, I would like more games in Mexico”.
Luis Chávez was asked about his feelings if the USMNT end up, once again, getting the better of Mexico. He spoke about this potential occurrence regarding Diego Cocca’s project: “We want to win and nothing else. We are not bothered by other things and obviously whatever the case, if you end up losing a game then even the players start to doubt.”
Diego Cocca’s plans for the game
The Mexican National Team are training double shifts at the Sport Centre near to Allegiant Stadium in order to arrive at the game in the best possible conditions, both physically and mentally. The stadium is expected to be a complete sell-out with the majority of the fans sporting the green, white and red flag instead of the stars and stripes, given the huge Mexican contingent that live in the state.
