Luis Enrique the favourite to replace Christophe Galtier at PSG

In Qatar, there is optimism regarding the arrival of the former Spain boss.

Although it is not yet official, Christophe Galtier’s departure from PSG is looming. The Marseille native sat on the PSG bench for the last time on Saturday against Clermont, in a game that saw his tenth defeat of the year, six more than in the whole of 2022. Galtier received more boos and went straight to the tunnel as the players were about to do a lap of honour at the Parc des Princes.

Luis Enrique the favourite

The man PSG want to replace him with is Luis Enrique. Both Qatar and Luis Campos see the Asturian as the ideal man to take the reins of the club and negotiations have already begun. There has been no agreement yet, but it is expected that everything will accelerate once Galtier is notified of his dismissal.

Luis Enrique has the edge over José Mourinho and Thiago Motta. He is the only one who generates unanimity in the PSG upper echelons, as the Portuguese, a close friend of Luis Campos, is not a profile that interests Nasser Al Khelaïfi. Motta, for his part, is the president’s choice, but his lack of experience in the Champions League could put a brake on his possible arrival.

Competition from Premier League

The next few days are expected to be decisive in getting the deal for PSG’s new coach over the line. Qatar is doing everything possible to make Luis Enrique Galtier’s replacement. Although the former Spanish national coach has given priority to the Premier League, if the French side can guarantee him an ambitious project, full decision-making power and a team adapted to his style, the situation could change in a matter of hours. This week, Campos will meet with Galtier to inform him that he will not remain beyond the summer.
