Luis Sinisterra ready to face more Premier League talent
The Leeds winger is ready for yet another test, this time versus Leicester. The Colombian has already come up against top talent in Mount, Saka, Ramsey and Gabriel Jesus.
Luis Sinisterra is ready to shine again in the Premier League. The winger has become one of Leeds’ top players for his dribbling and ability to beat a man in the final quarter of the pitch. He is versatile, too: the Colombian can be sometimes deployed in the middle when options on the left dry up, with boss Jesse Marsch well aware of his long-range shooting capacity from these zones.
In seven games played, four of those as a starter, Sinisterra has been important in the change of pace throughout the team. Although Leeds are currently winless in six, Sinisterra is an essential piece to their attack. In the games he has played, the winger has faced several Premier League stars; against Leicester he will play against one of the best midfielders of English football, Belgian star Youri Tielemans. The other standout name on the teamsheet is James Maddison, although he is unavailable due to an accumulation of yellow cards.
Luis Sinisterra’s statistics versus Youri Tielemans
In order to analyse the duel between Tielemans and Sinisterra, we took several offensive and defensive statistics. Sometimes the Belgian midfielder drops back to help his full-back to contain the rival wingers and he will have to do the same defensive work if and when the Colombian floats into the middle of the pitch to look for a potential shooting opportunity.
In the Be Soccer Pro statistics, Sinisterra leads in goals, successful dribbles, accelerations, successful dangerous zone dribbles, successful defensive 1v1s and fouls (in the latter the Colombian is surprisingly ahead with 1.49). Recently, the winger was sent off after receiving two yellow cards, firstly for a strong tackle and then for blocking an opponent’s free kick.
In terms of assists, key passes, successful passes to the last third, defensive duels won and successful covers, the Belgian midfielder comes out on top. Tielemans is one of the standout performers in that area and his passes are always crucial to the way Leicester like to build up under Rodgers.
What other Premier League stars has he faced?
On his debut, he played 7 minutes against Mason Mount and 20 minutes against Kai Havertz, a match Leeds won 3-0. He then played 28 minutes against Brighton’s Danny Welbeck before coming up against Ramsey, the Aston Villa midfielder. Last week he was tested against Gabriel Jesus, Odegaard and Saka.
Perhaps his best battle on the pitch happened in the most recent match against Saka; the Arsenal winger gave him a tough day defensively and the Colombian did the same with him. In the end, the match-up was won by the 21-year-old Englishman who scored the decisive goal of the match.
The game between Leicester and Leeds will be played this Thursday at 21:15 CEST / 14:15 (Colombian time) at the King Power Stadium.
