Luis Suárez injury update: the player is “at the limit” and may need “a prosthesis”
The president of Grêmio revealed the difficult fitness situation the striker faces regarding his right knee.
Luis Suárez is going through a difficult moment at Grêmio due to ongoing fitness issues, as revealed by Alberto Guerra, the club president. In a speech made at the Porto Alegre club, Guerra said that the ex-Barcelona striker was “at the limit” and may even need “a prosthesis” in his right knee.
AS understands that the strong pain the forward is suffering in his right knee is due to osteoarthritis which has led the player to call time on his career at 36-years-old, once his contract with the club ends on 31 December 2024.
“He has the possibility of putting in a prosthesis, the situation is serious. [He needs] a lot of injections, a lot of medication. He is getting to the limit, but we don’t know when he will arrive at his limit, when his last game is”, said Guerra.
Grêmio’s manager sees Suárez as an example to follow
As news regarding the fitness of the player comes to light, Suárez himself continues to train under the orders of Grêmio manager, Renato Portaluppi, and has made it onto the squad list for the team’s game against América MG, on the 11th match day of the Brazilian Serie A.
Suárez has been called an exemplary player by his manager, who values highly the experience that the player gives to the side on and off the pitch. Going further than just the goals he scores, Portaluppi appreciates the professionalism of the player and the effort he shows in every game, despite having already won almost everything possible at the elite level.
How many goals has Suárez scored for Grêmio?
Luis Suárez joined Grêmio in January and has since scored 14 goals in 26 games for the team from Porto Alegre, as well as getting 8 assists. He scored a hat-trick on his debut to win the Recopa Gaúcha and has added another title to his trophy cabinet, the Gaúcho Championship, where he scored a penalty in the final. However, given the physical issues, Suárez’s form has dropped off and of the last 11 games he has only scored three for Grêmio.
