Luka Jovic and Cruz Azul: the state of play
Cruz Azul has been chasing the former Real Madrid striker for some time now - but hasn’t been able to complete his signing.
Cruz Azul has made a lukewarm start to the Apertura 2025, recording back-to-back draws against Mazatlán and Atlas. But while the tournament is already underway, the club’s front office remains active in the summer transfer market.
Fans impatient to welcome Jovic
One of the names on La Máquina’s radar is Serbian striker Luka Jovic, who most recently played for AC Milan. Despite weeks of speculation, the deal has yet to be made official - leaving fans wondering whether the European forward will actually arrive.

According to reporter Adrián Esparza Oteo, the deal with Jovic is already fully agreed upon. Both sides have reached terms, but Cruz Azul has yet to announce the signing due to a lack of available foreign player slots. One of those slots is still occupied by Greek striker Giorgos Giakoumakis.
Giakoumakis has not been training with the team, as the club has informed him he’s not in head coach Nicolás Larcamón’s plans. The front office is actively working to find him a new destination, and once his departure is finalized, the Serbian forward is expected to arrive at La Noria and join the roster.
