Man arrested for selling false tickets for the Copa del Rey final
The false tickets were copies of invitations issued by the Spanish Football Federation for last year’s final. Numerous people have fallen for the scam.
A 37-year-old man, resident of Asturias, has been arrested in Alcorcón, Madrid accused of selling false tickets for Saturday’s Copa del Rey final between Real Madrid and Osasuna which will take place at La Cartuja in Seville. The investigation, reported by the Civil Guard in Navarra, began after several complaints were received in Pamplona for an alleged fraud when fans tried to buy tickets for the match over the internet.

According to the Civil Guard statement, the detainee advertised the tickets on a well-known portal for buying and selling second-hand products, alleging that he had bought them for personal use and was selling them as he was unable to attend. The scammer went to extraordinary measures to carry out the con trick, travelling to the town where the victims resided to deliver the tickets in person rather than by post as to leave as little traceable evidence as possible. After learning of the facts, the Civil Guard of Navarra issued a national search and arrest warrant that culminated in the arrest of the suspect by the National Police in Alcorcón on Wednesday.
The agents in charge of the investigation have detected that similar scams are taking place throughout the country. In Navarra, several false tickets have been sold and at least three people have been scammed. In Seville, a number of people have been affected and police fear that there may be many more nationwide. The Civil Guard has verified that the false tickets are actually a copy of the invitations issued to the Spanish Football Federation for the 2022 Copa del Rey final, which was also played in Seville.
