This Sunday’s Matchday 8 clash between Wolves and Manchester City in the 2024-25 Premier League saw Pep Guardiola’s side set a new club record for the longest unbeaten streak in the history of the English top flight. Despite a tough battle at Molineux Stadium, the Citizens remain as title contenders at the top of the EPL.

City initially fell behind to a goal from Jørgen Strand Larsen, but they rallied with a stunning strike from Joško Gvardiol and a last-minute winner from John Stones to claim all three points. As in their match against Arsenal at the Etihad, Stones came to the rescue in stoppage time.

How many games have City gone without losing?

Although a draw would have still improved their previous record set in 2018, this victory helped Guardiola quiet some of the concerns raised by recent draws against Arsenal (2-2) and Newcastle United (1-1). His side have now won back-to-back matches against Fulham (3-2) and Wolves (2-1), extending their unbeaten run to 31 games, with 25 wins and 6 draws.

Furthermore, City remain the only undefeated team in this Premier League campaign, with six wins and two draws from eight matches. In contrast, teams like Liverpool, Arsenal, Aston Villa, Brighton, and Nottingham Forest have each suffered at least one loss. City’s next league match will be against 19th-placed Southampton.

Despite long-term injuries, such as Rodri Hernandez’s, these early games have allowed Pep Guardiola to integrate Mateo Kovačić into City’s midfield pivot. Kevin De Bruyne is also sidelined with a flexor muscle injury, but Guardiola is placing his full trust in players like Bernardo Silva and İlkay Gündoğan.

Next up, Manchester City will face Sparta Praha in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, October 23. Having already drawn against Inter Milan (0-0) and defeated Slovan Bratislava (4-0), the Citizens will look to maintain their unbeaten streak in European competition.
