Manchester City are reportedly ‘very close’ to signing Erling Haaland, according to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.

“I can’t imagine Guardiola letting Gabriel Jesus go even if Haaland comes, which will happen because the deal is very close,” Di Marzio said of the Norwegian’s transfer from Borussia Dortmund.

Kane linked with City

Harry Kane was previously in pole position to join Pep Guardiola’s side. Kane didn’t join from Tottenham and now it is Haaland who is the favourite to become the club’s first choice centre forward.

Di Marzio believes Gabriel Jesus will stay at City and sees the Brazilian as a different and necessary profile even if Haaland arrives from Dortmund. “They still need another striker, a different profile. Haaland is a different type of player. Gabriel Jesus is going to stay because it is difficult to find a player like him. City have not ruled out selling him to make money. You have the option to buy whoever you want. It will depend on whether Gabriel Jesus agrees to play less once Haaland arrives. It will depend on his attitude if he knows another unbelievable striker is coming,” he said.

Haaland to leave Dortmund

Haaland, who has many suitors, is set to leave Borussia Dortmund this summer. The Norwegian arrived as a promising youngster at the Bundesliga club as a promising youngster after lighting up the Champions League with RB Salzburg and has since become a star of world football who could leave for a fee of around €70 million.

Despite being hampered by injuries, Haaland has once again proved this season that he is among the world’s best. At just 21 years of age, he has scored 28 goals and provided seven assists in 28 games, 24 of them coming as a starter.

The player’s father, Alf-Inge Haaland, played for City and it’s looking more likely that the Premier League club will welcome the next Haaland to wear their shirt this summer.
