Manchester City look to build upon promising season opening

The blues are one of two unbeaten teams in the Premier League this season in no small part down to the impact of Norwegian striker Erling Haaland. Since joining from Borussia Dortmund at the start of the summer he has scored 12 goals in eight games. The big talking point will be that the match offers the first opportunity for Haaland to play aginst his former club.

Were Man City to win on Wednesday then qualification for the next round of the Champions League would be all but assured. Their next two fixtures in the competition will be against Copenhagen, a team with a vast gap in quality to City and will likely put up token resistance. City are hoping Haaland will fire them to the cup and everything is going as planned so far.

Dortmund will look to push on from their comfortable 3-0 win over Copenhagen in their first Champions League game of the season. However, getting a result against Man City has proved to be a tough task for many this season and with Haaland in such form it could be a matter of keeping the goal difference down compared to pushing for a win.

In the Bundesliga Dortmund sit fifth out of 18 teams, winning four games and losing two, including against rivals RB Leipzig 3-0 last weekend. After Man City they will play in the Revierderby, or the Ruhr derby in English, against Schalke.
