Manchester United close to announcing first deal of January
Last weekends draw against Liverpool showed signs of progress under Ruben Amorim and they look set to tie down a talented young star.
There has been little to cheer about for Manchester United fans of late. But after a torrid run of form in December, last weekend’s draw with high-flying Liverpool at Anfield showed signs of real improvement.
Young forward Amad Diallo was key to that result, scoring a late leveller for United and causing problems for the Liverpool backline. The 22-year-old has been given a new lease of life under head coach Ruben Amorim and is set to put pen to paper on a new deal at Old Trafford.
ESPN reports that United have agreed terms for a new contract with Diallo, tying him to the club for the long term.
Notably, although his Diallo’s deal was due to expire at the end of the season the club held an option to extend it for another year. However instead of triggering that option, United have opted to hand Diallo a new, long-term contract.
Amad Diallo salary details and contract length
The signing of Amad Diallo in 2020 came as something of a shock to most United fans. The Ivorian moved to the academy of Italian side Atalanta in 2015 and made his senior debut in October 2019, soon after his 17th birthday. He scored his first goal within four minutes of entering.
he made just four further appearance for Atalanta’s senior team before being snapped up by Manchester United in a deal valued at $46 million. He spent time on loan at Rangers and Sunderland, performing well with the latter, but had made just 12 league appearances for Man Utd during his first four years with the club.
Diallo’s initial United contract was worth an estimated £1.5 million per year and ran for an initial five years. His new deal is also though to be a five-year deal but his salary looks set for a heathy increase. The Sun reports that Diallo is set to treble his £29,000 per week deal to around £90,000.
