MANCHESTER UNITED
Manchester United set to sign the ‘new Haaland’
Rasmus Højlund is about to become one of the most expensive signings in Manchester United’s history.
Although it will not be Harry Kane, Erik ten Hag will soon have his new striker. After agreeing the transfer of Rasmus Højlund for £72 million ($92m), Rasmus Højlund has travelled to Manchester to undergo a medical and make his move to Manchester United official.
The young Denmark intentionally will occupy, together with Romelu Lukaku, a position in the top five most expensive signings in the history of the club.
Fees for Sancho and Antony
Since the summer of 2021, the club have invested in their attack, but it hasn’t always paid dividends. First, it was Jadon Sancho. United paid €85 million to Borussia Dortmund for the English attacker. Two seasons later, at Old Trafford, they are still waiting for the best version of the English international. The seven goals and three assists in 2023-24 were his best numbers with United, however, the 23-year-old has not yet been able to establish himself as the undisputed starter in United’s eleven.
Last season was Antony’s first season at Old Trafford, which ended with eight goals and three assists to his credit. The €95 million that United paid Ajax made him the second most expensive signing in the club’s history.
Counting Højlund’s fee, United have invested more than €260 million in three attackers during the last three summer windows. The goal with Højlund is to finally find a striker whose performances match the price paid.
