Manchester United turn their attention to Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot
Manchester United are in talks with Juventus over a move for France international Adrien Rabiot.
Manchester United are in talks with Juventus over a deal for Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot, according to The Athletic.
United, linked with a move for Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong all summer, must now decide whether to make the France international their priority or wait for De Jong.
The 27-year-old’s contract at Juventus runs until June 2023. He is currently valued at €17million by transfer website Transfermarkt.
No De Jong deal
The Premier League outfit reached an €85million ($86.6m) agreement with Barcelona to sign De Jong in July, however issues over his deferred salary and whether he wanted a move to United were unresolved.
Both Rabiot and De Jong played in their sides’ final pre-season games on Sunday. Rabiot featured for Juventus in the Serie A side’s 4-0 defeat to Atlético Madrid, while De Jong scored Barcelona’s sixth goal in their 6-0 Gamper Trophy victory over Mexican outfit Pumas.
Pressure to sign at Old Trafford
Brighton beat United 2-1 at Old Trafford on Sunday, a defeat that puts even greater pressure on the club to sign players before the end of the summer transfer window.
New signings Lisandro Martínez and Christian Eriksen started the game, while Tyrell Malacia, who joined from Feyenoord, came on late in the second half as Erik ten Hag’s side slipped to an opening day defeat.
