The Red Devils’ two-week US tour
United have planned a two-week summer tour of the United States, which will take in four games in total. The clash with the Gunners will be the first of them, followed by a match against Wrexham, owned by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, in San Diego (Snapdrgon Stadium) on Tuesday 25 July and then a friendly against Borussia Dortmund in Las Vegas (Allegiant Stadium) on 30 July. The Red Devils say the final match of their tour will be announced “in the coming weeks”.
United’s Football Director John Murtough said: “Manchester United versus Arsenal is one the most famous and anticipated fixtures in the English football calendar and supporters from both clubs understand how big the rivalry between the two sides is. It’s great to be able to bring this match to New York and play in front of what I am sure will be a sell-out crowd.
“I know [manager] Erik [Ten Hag] and the squad are looking forward to starting their pre-season preparations in New York and utilising the great sporting facilities available to us in the city. The last time United played in New York was in 2011, so we are excited to be returning after such a long wait. There is no better location to kick start the club’s Tour 2023″.
Arsenal to play MLS All-Stars team
Arsenal, meanwhile, have already scheduled a game before their meeting with United. On Wednesday 19 July, Mikel Arteta’s team will face the MLS All-Stars team at Audi Field in Washington DC, which has sold out. “Further details” of their pre-season plans are also to be announced “soon”.
Arsenal’s Sporting Director Edu said: “The plans for pre-season are making good progress, with the match against Manchester United in New York being another important part of our preparations. Playing against strong opposition in a great stadium in front of so many of our supporters in New York will provide Mikel and the squad with a strong test and great experience ahead of the new season.
“We’ve now announced two matches in the US in July and look forward to announcing further details of our pre-season soon”:
