Marc Guiu misses RFEF game with administrative situation cited by Barça B boss Marquez
Barça B manager Rafa Márquez tried to explain the reason for the absence of the striker (who turns 18 this Thursday) stating that: “It is an administrative situation”.
Barça Atlètic (FC Barcelona B team) returned to 1A RFEF action this midweek but lost against Unionistas from Salamanca at the Estadi Johan Cruyff (0-2). The team have now gone four games without winning and have started to slip down the table. Many were surprised to Marc Guiu missing for the game with the striker (who turns 18 this Thursday), put himself on the football map with his impressive debut with the first team against Athletic. He has also scored in the Champions League and in the end-of-year friendly in Dallas against Liga MX giants América.
With his career taking off, the arrival of Brazilian Vitor Roque may limit his first team appearances in the immediate future especially in LaLiga and Champions League but it’s expected that the teenager will be in the squad for the Copa del Rey clash in Barbastro next Sunday.
Rafa Márquez was somewhat vague in his explanation for Guiu’s absence: “It is a management of the administrative part from the coordinators who handle all that,” he said. Then, as a final closing line the Mexican added: “Of course I would like to have him in the squad.”
As is the situation when the first team plays the Copa del Rey, seven first team squad players need to be on the pitch at any one time, the same applies to Barça Atlétic where seven players with a youth track record at the club need to be playing.
That only leaves Márquez the option of fielding three with a youth record to avoid improper alignment. Pau Cubarsí, Héctor Fort, Pau Prim and Bernal usually play in the reserve team and all four have a Barcelona youth track record. For the game against Unionistas, Márquez did not have this problem because Cubarsí and Fort have been called up with the first team and traveled to Las Palmas. Guiu, however, did not appear in the Johan Cruyff.
