Mexico manager Jaime Lozano has called up Toluca player Marcel Ruiz for the friendlies against Germany and Ghana later this month.

“It’s all a matter of time, I think it’s a matter of patience because it’s a process, you work well because it’s what you want day by day. I knew I was playing well in the team, but as I say, it’s a matter of time, whether you have made merits or not, I knew I would be in the call”, the 23-year-old said in an interview.

Mexico face Germany and Ghana

On his call-up, he stressed that the rivals will not be easy because Germany and Ghana are very tough teams, but he will fight to earn a place in the team as the 2026 World Cup is coming up, where Mexico, the United States and Canada will host the tournament.

“In terms of expectations, it’s just going to compete for a place. The national team is the biggest thing there is, and then comes the issue of the Germany and Ghana games. Germany are one of the most physical teams. I will always aim to give one hundred per cent and wear the national team shirt with great pride,” he told ‘AS en W’.

2026 World Cup

Speaking about the 2026 World Cup, Ruiz stressed that, like every footballer, it is his dream to represent Mexico in a World Cup and even more so as it is in Mexico in three years’ time.

“I’m not sure if I’m going to be able to play in a World Cup. Like all kids who play soccer, you have the dream of playing in a World Cup and this one is going to be at home. It is one of the greatest dreams,” he added.

Finally, Ruiz indicated that it is important that there is ‘new blood’ in the Mexico camp, especially because of the generational change that will take place soon.

“I think it’s important to have young players in all kinds of positions because that’s what will contribute to the future in Mexico, the United States and Canada.

“Fortunately I had the opportunity to make my debut very early in my career. In my first season I was 17, and in Tijuana, I had a period when I didn’t play much, but they are experiences,” he concluded.
