Mason Greenwood was granted bail on a charge of attempted rape
The still Manchester player awaits judgment on his case of rape and controlling behavior.
Mason Greenwood, the Manchester United player, was released on bail after being accused of attempted rape. Additionally, the 21-year-old was charged with assault and repeated controlling and coercive behavior.
He was arrested in January after charges involving online images and videos surfaced. The footballer from Bowdon in Greater Manchester will be released from detention after a private hearing at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court.
After his Monday court appearance in Manchester and Salford, he was remanded into custody. A court spokesperson confirmed bail had been granted with the restrictions that the defendant not contact witnesses, including the complainant, and remain at a Bowdon location.
Mr. Greenwood was absent from the brief hearing. Since January, he had been out on bail, but he was re-arrested in Trafford on Saturday for an apparent violation of the restrictions.
Each charge pertains to the same woman. According to the allegations, the attempted rape occurred in October 2021.
The controlling and coercive behavior is alleged to have occurred between November 2018 and October 2022. During this time, he made threatening and disparaging statements toward the victim and monitored her social media accounts.
The attempted attack resulting in actual bodily harm reportedly occurred in December 2021.
Within hours of the claims appearing online at the start of the year, the forward was suspended from playing or training with the Old Trafford club.
Since his arrest ten months ago, Greenwood, long regarded as one of his generation’s most brilliant English attackers, has neither played nor trained with Manchester United. As a result, Nike terminated its sponsorship agreement with him, and Electronic Arts removed him from Fifa 22′s active squads.
“Manchester United notes that criminal charges have been brought against Mason Greenwood by the Crown Prosecution Service. He remains suspended by the club, pending the outcome of the judicial process.” The club said in a statement
