Mateusz Bogusz bids Mexico farewell and heads for MLS
The Pole impressed during his first few months but eventually lost his place under Nicolás Larcamón. The next stop in his career is Houston.

Mateusz Bogusz has officially reached an agreement to join the Houston Dynamo in MLS, bringing his chapter with Liga MX powerhouse Cruz Azul to a close.
The Polish midfielder arrived at Cruz Azul’s La Noria training facility in early 2025 and immediately impressed with his ball control, shooting ability, and sharp passing vision.

But over time, his impact faded. With the arrival of head coach Nicolás Larcamón, Bogusz was gradually pushed into a backup role.
In total, Bogusz played 27 matches for Cruz Azul and scored two goals. He was part of the squad that won the 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup, even scoring in the team’s dominant 5–0 victory over the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Details of the deal
Cruz Azul is set to receive $6 million up front for the transfer, with another $4 million arriving in installments. With Bogusz valued at around €10 million, the club appears poised to recover its investment.
The team is still expected to pursue a center back and a striker before the window closes. Bogusz lost his starting spot under Larcamón, who preferred José Paradela in midfield. The roster also includes Jeremy Márquez and Andrés Montaño, giving Cruz Azul depth in the position.
Cruz Azul returns to action in Week 4 of the Clausura 2026 on January 30 at Estadio Olímpico Benito Juárez against FC Juárez. After that, the club will begin its Concacaf Champions Cup title defense, facing Vancouver FC in the opening round as it looks to make another deep run on the international stage.
