Matías Kranevitter leaves Monterrey to re-sign for River Plate

After three years in Mexico, Argentinian midfielder Kranevitter has returned to River Plate in a deal worth just under $2 million.

Matías Kranevitter has left Monterrey to rejoin River Plate, signing a three-year deal with the Argentinian club. River have acquired 100% of the player’s rights for a figure close to $1.8 million.

River youth product back at first club

Kranevitter, 29, made the decision to leave the Liga MX and return to in Argentina for family reasons.

The midfielder, who has nine Argentina caps, passed a medical on Monday and has already trained with the rest of the River squad, under the orders of head coach Martín Demichelis.

A product of Los Millonarios’ youth academy, he made 91 appearances for the Buenos Aires club between 2012 and 2015.

A Copa MX, Champions League winner with Monterrey

Kranevitter joined Monterrey in January 2020 and played 103 games for Los Albiazules, winning the 2020 Copa MX and the 2021 CONCACAF Champions League. In the Apertura 2022 tournament, he featured 19 times, scoring one goal and registering two assists.
