Estados Unidos Update:

It’s been exactly one year since Mauricio Pochettino took the reins as head coach of the US Men’s National Soccer Team (USMNT), and the Argentine tactician is beginning to deliver key insights into a project whose ultimate goal is nothing short of winning the 2026 World Cup.

“We have to believe we can win—not just a match, but the World Cup. That’s the only way to build a philosophy and a vision,” Pochettino declared during his unveiling last year. Since then, he’s been laying the groundwork for a winning generation, instilling belief and structure into a squad hungry for global recognition.

Mixed results, mounting pressure

While the team has shown signs of progress, setbacks in the Concacaf Nations League and the Gold Cup have fueled criticism. Some USMNT legends have publicly questioned whether Pochettino’s approach is the right one, pointing to inconsistency and missed opportunities in key matches.

But inside US Soccer, confidence in Pochettino remains strong—especially from Sporting Director Matt Crocker, who has worked closely with him and believes the team is on the right path.

Crocker: “This is just the beginning”

In a statement shared by USMNT, Crocker praised Pochettino’s first year at the helm, emphasizing that the foundation for long-term success is now in place.

“Mauricio’s first year has been about laying the groundwork. We’re learning, growing, and shaping our identity as we prepare for the challenges ahead. This is just the beginning,” Crocker said.

With the next World Cup set to be hosted on home soil, expectations are sky-high. Pochettino’s challenge is not just tactical—it’s cultural. He’s tasked with transforming the USMNT into a team that doesn’t just compete, but believes it can win it all.
