Matthäus advises Moukoko against joining Barcelona
The Bayern legend believes Dortmund is a good place for Moukoko to continue to develop.
Alarm bells have been ringing at Borussia Dortmund for some time now about the possible departure at the end of the season of one of their most promising players, Youssoufa Moukoko.
Moukoko is an 18-year-old wonderkid who has still not renewed his contract with Dortmund. In addition to Chelsea, Manchester United and PSG, Barcelona are interested in his services. But one German legend has been quick to advise against a move away from Signal Iduna Park.
In an opinion piece published on Sky’s website, former Germany international Lothar Matthäus wrote: “He should stay at Borussia Dortmund for at least another year or two and not immediately follow the money. He has recently become a permanent fixture for Terzic. He is still very young, has a great future and a fantastic career ahead of him”.
The former Bayern player is well aware that making the step up to a top team would be a major challenge for a youngster like Moukoko. “There are many examples of young players who left for England or other big leagues too early because they couldn’t wait,” Matthäus said.
“Borussia Dortmund is one of the best clubs in Europe for young players. That’s why I would be grateful in his place, continue to give my all, score many more goals for BVB and then go on to the next adventure,” he concluded.
