Mauricio Pochettino: 100% chance of Kylian Mbappé staying at PSG

Mauricio Pochettino admits that he would be likely to stay at Paris Saint-Germain for next season, along with Real Madrid target Kylian Mbappé.

Update:
Mauricio Pochettino: 100% chance of Kylian Mbappé staying at PSG

Mauricio Pochettino spoke in a press conference on Thursday ahead of Paris Saint-Germain’s match against Strasbourg on Friday.

The PSG manager has revealed that he would be likely to stay at the club next season, along with Real Madrid target Kylian Mbappé.

Ahead of the Ligue 1 game this weekend, the former Tottenham boss was asked to give a percentage for the likelihood of both himself and Mbappé staying with PSG beyond the summer. “100% in both cases,” he said.

On Mbappé being the top scorer

“It’s clear that now the team is also focusing on individual achievements, it’s natural and of course, each player will get the support he deserves. In this case, whatever Kylian needs, he will have no problem with his team-mates supporting him. The whole team is supporting him to achieve his goal,” Pochettino said.

Talks over contract renewal

“We have a natural relationship with Leonardo. We communicate on different issues. Logically, the issues vary depending on the circumstances. But the relationship and communication is good.”

Ancelotti and the possibility of winning titles in Europe’s top five leagues

“I have enormous respect for Ancelotti. He is a great coach and a great person. I’m delighted that people like Carlo are doing well in the world of football. I would like to see many more Carlo Ancelotti’s in the world of football.”

On Neymar

“Of course Ney’s talent is indisputable. A player who has been at the club for a few years now for the amount of money he has been signed for is because we are talking about one of the best players in the world. Circumstances sometimes cause ups and downs over the years. This year he had a major injury, after the Copa America. I judge his season on ups and downs like the team. Today I was talking about that with Messi.

“There was a time we were moving forward, and then we were knocked out by Real Madrid. The season would have been very different if we had gone through. The line between failure and success is sometimes very small. That can also provide the strength to write a different story in the future.”

Mbappé's future

It remains unclear as to whether Mbappé will sign a new deal with PSG or finally decide to join Real Madrid. Pochettino says he can see Mbappé staying at PSG.

“That’s what I can see today, it’s what I feel. But then in football, you can expect anything.”
