After the violent events that took place at the stadiums of Tijuana and Mazatlán during last weekend’s fixtures, the Mexican Soccer Federation (FMF) announced that both Xolos and the Cañoneros will receive a punishment and a stadium ban.

On Friday, during the Matchday 16 matches, a crowd of Mazatlán and Rayados fans, as well as members of the stadium security force, were involved in a fight that caused multiple injuries in some people. The FMF’s Disciplinary Commission announced that the home team would face sanctions as punishment.

“The Commission has decided to penalize Club Mazatlán FC, with a stadium ban, as it transgressed Article 47: sub-paragraphs f) and h) of the FMF Sanctions Regulations, which establish that there must be the necessary security to avoid incidents that occur in the stands, corridors, tunnels and dressing rooms, whether caused by officials and/or the general public,” the statement read.

Xolos also sanctioned

Elsewhere on Friday, Xolos fans attacked León supporters inside Estadio Caliente in Tijuana. In some videos posted on social media, it can be seen how home fans attacked visiting supporters, kicking some of them while they were on the floor.

“This Commission has decided to sanction economically, in addition to stadium ban and 3 (Three) Suspension Games at home for its Animation Group to Club Tijuana, since it transgressed Article 48 of the FMF Sanctions Regulation, which establishes that the local club is responsible for the improper conduct of the Animation Group and the general public.

“Club Tijuana is warned about the future conduct of its Animation Group and the General Public that attends Estadio Caliente. In the event that this type of action is committed again, the Commission The Disciplinary Agency may impose more severe sanctions against the club,” the statement said.
