Mazatlán set to sign Gustavo del Prete
The Pacific team continue to make reinforcements and are close to securing the Argentine striker on loan from Pumas.
Mazatlán’s position in the Liga MX hasn’t changed much since the club was founded. Generally, the team has occupied the lower positions in the table, but that is something which the institution is keen to change. The board is looking to strengthen the team for the new campaign and one of the first reinforcements could be Gustavo del Prete, who has been left out in the cold by Pumas.
According journalist César Luis Merlo, Mazatlán and Necaxa have both shown an interest in the Argentine centre-forward and have approached UNAM to negotiate a price. However, it has since emerged that the Rayos have retreated after failing to reach an agreement.
It leaves Mazatlán in a strong position to land the 27-year-old, who has another 18 months to run on his contract with Pumas. It has been speculated that the transaction could be a one-year loan deal with an option to purchase, but at the moment it is all rumors.
Del Prete joined Pumas for the Apertura 2022 on a $5 million deal, after an impressive season in his homeland for Estudiantes de La Plata. Since then he has made a total of 53 official appearances, notching up seven goals and four assists.
