PSG were held to a 3-3 draw away at Strasbourg in a game where the result didn’t really matter too much for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, who have already wrapped up the 2021-22 Ligue 1 title. It was of some significance to Kylian Mbappé though, with the France striker chasing a piece of Ligue 1 history to end the season ahead of a potential move to Real Madrid this summer.

Mbappé currently leads the scoring and assists charts in the French top flight and is aiming to become the first player in Ligue 1 history to end the season with the highest totals in both categories. His double against Strasbourg took his tally to 24 goals for the campaign and he has added 15 assists as well. If Mbappé is crowned Ligue 1 top scorer this season, it will be his fourth in a row after banging in 33, 18 and 27 in domestic competition since he joined PSG in 2018 (he shared the 2019-20 award with Monaco’s Wissam Ben Yedder).

Terrier and Messi on Mbappé's heels

Mbappé faces competition on both fronts. Rennes striker Martin Terrier is just three goals behind with 21 while Mbappé's PSG teammate Leo Messi has 13 assists to the France striker’s 15.

When I said we are still playing, I included myself in that. Obviously, it’s an objective to be the top goal scorer and top in assists as well. I’ve always said if you can do both nobody can doubt you. There are three games left and I’m going to carry on helping my team to win all the time,” Mbappé said after the Strasbourg game.
