Mbappé and the other ‘undesirables’ at PSG

Kylian Mbappé's exit strategy has seen him join a group of players who are not in the plans for the Parisian club and who will train separately until a solution is found.

The term ‘undesirable’ was coined by the French press a year ago to define the players that had been discarded from the plans of Paris Saint-Germain. Luis Campos designed a situation whereby the departure of these players would be speeded up so that the coach would not have an overbooking in the squad. This summer, as the club is travelling in Japan, much of the attention is still focused on the sports city of Poissy, which since Saturday welcomed Kylian Mbappé as one more ‘undesirable’.

PSG fire sale: Mbappé joins Draxler, Paredes, Wijnaldum...

The only peculiarity of this group is its differentiation with the players who, for their part, do count for PSG and new boss Luis Enrique. They are not forbidden to use the club’s facilities, but they cannot enter into the daily dynamics of the first team. For example, Leandro Paredes, one of the ‘undesirables’, trained alone last week while PSG trained as scheduled in the sports city.

In addition to Mbappé, the discarded group is made up of Julian Draxler, Georginio Wijnaldum, Colin Dagba and the aforementioned Leandro Paredes. The objective of removing them from the main group, in addition to making it clear to them that they are not part of the plans for PSG, is to speed up their departure process. If they have not found a solution in ten days, they could return to training as normal, although Mbappé has already been told that he will spend the entire season in the stands if he does not renew or accept being sold.

The group of ‘undesirables’ will follow a specific training plan, set by PSG, so as not to lose shape over the next two weeks. While Luis Enrique’s chosen ones will compete in Japan in different friendlies, Mbappé and others will stay behind in Poissy waiting to find out how their future lies.
