Kylian Mbappé sent a beautiful personal message to PSG team-mate Achraf Hakimi after France beat Morocco 2-0 in the World Cup semi-final on Wednesday evening in Qatar.

The France striker, who set up his side’s second goal with a stunning run, tweeted directly to Hakimi to say: “Don’t be sad bro, everybody is proud of what you did, you made history.”

Morocco did indeed make history, becoming the first African and first Arab nation to make it to the semi-finals at the World Cup.

France now go on to play Argentina in Sunday’s final.

Mbappé and Hakimi - friends on and off the pitch

In addition to being teammates at PSG, Mbappé and Hakimi are good friends, and on Mbappé's day off last week he headed to see Hakimi, posing with him as they met up.

Since Hakimi joined PSG in July last year from Inter Milan for around $60 million, Mbappé has looked out for him, and they even have their lockers next to each other in the dressing room.

“It has all been spontaneous,” Hakimi told Telefoot back in April. “From the day I arrived, when you meet someone like him, the same age, the same personality, the same character. We are two kids. It all just flows naturally.”

Morocco coach: “Whole world is proud of this Morocco team”

Mbappé's sentiments were echoed by Morocco coach Walid Regragui, who said the “whole world is proud of this Moroccan team” in statements after the match. ““The boys fought until the last minute… We wanted to win the game, but we came up against a strong team that knows what it is doing and waits for you to make a mistake”, said Regargui, who only took over in charge of Morocco at the end of August.

“The whole world is proud of this Moroccan team. We showed desire, played hard, and have given a good image of Morocco and of African football,” the 47-year-old coach said.
