‘Memo’ Ochoa linked with Spanish second division side
The Mexican goalkeeper could remain in Europe with second tier Burgos CF linked with the Mexican stopper.
Burgos CF CEO Alejandro Grandinetti spoke about the possibility of Mexican goalkeeper Francisco Guillermo Ochoa joining Spain’s second division. In days, the name ‘Paco Memo’ has gained momentum as he looks to continue his career in Europe. Burgos are an outside candidate for promotion to the Spanish stop flight and after two games have recorded four points. The YouTube program ‘3 en la banca’ showcased Grandinetti‘s comments on Ochoa possibly moving to the LaLiga Hypermotion side.
The Burgos executive admitted that the club are looking at the Mexican keeper, adding: “Options and more are being considered, but we want to let the sporting department to do their job but it is true that we want to bring in another goalkeeper". Even if Ochoa moves to the side from Castilla y Leon, there is no guarantee at this point of him starting for the side with Ander Cantero a firm fixture for coach Luis Miguel Ramis.
Ochoa in Europe
Ochoa still harbours dreams of playing for the Mexican national team in the 2026 World Cup and add to his impressive haul of 153 international caps. In his time in Spain, the veteran stopper has played with Málaga and Granada.
Argentine Marcelo Figoli is the president of Burgos CF and as the team prepare for their 2025-26 season matchday three clash against Andorra, it’s a case of ‘watch this space’ to see if Burgos secure an agreement with the 40-year-old to play at the Estadio Plantio for the season ahead.
