Inter Miami, the Major League Soccer team co-owned by David Beckham, are reportedly on the brink of agreeing on a deal with Paris Saint-Germain superstar and football icon, Lionel Messi.

Those at the top of the Inter Miami ladder are ‘confident’ Messi will sign at the conclusion of the World Cup in Qatar, according to Barstool Football. The 35-year-old, who has scored in both of Argentina’s group stage matches, would not move until the end of PSG’s season.

Inter Miami going for greatness

If everything goes as planned, the deal with Inter Miami would make Messi the highest-paid player in MLS history, as per the report, which also mentions that the U.S. team is keen on acquiring two of Messi’s former Barcelona team-mates, Luis Suarez and Cesc Fabregas.

Besides the warm weather and low taxes, the Argentina captain is pretty familiar with Miami; he owns a home in the area, where he regularly spends time off with his family.

Having the opportunity to continue playing football, while landing an enormous deal in an ideal location does not sound like a bad deal at all for the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner.

Messi dreams to play in the U.S.

Messi told the Spanish press last year that he “would like to play in the United States one day; it’s always been one of my dreams.”

Since his contract with PSG expires at the end of this season, he is free to venture wherever he likes this summer.

It remains unclear whether PSG would try and curb Inter Miami’s efforts by offering a lucrative offer of their own to keep the icon around for a little longer.

Messi’s potential move to Miami would provide a huge boost to North American football ahead of the World Cup in 2026, which will be hosted by the U.S., alongside Canada and Mexico.
